Prof. Dr. Sc., MD, Orthopedic Specialist Boris Nemec graduated in 1971 from the Faculty of Medicine in Rijeka. After completing his mandatory medical internship, he joined the Orthopedic Clinic in Lovran. In 1981, he was appointed assistant at the Department of Orthopedics at the Faculty of Medicine in Rijeka and earned his Master of Medical Sciences degree the same year. Since 1983, he has been the head of the Sports Traumatology Department at the Orthopedic Clinic in Lovran.

He defended his doctoral dissertation in 1989 at the Faculty of Medicine in Rijeka and earned the title of assistant professor of medical sciences in 1997. In 2004, he was promoted to full professor in the scientific field of Biomedicine and Health at the Department of Orthopedics.

During his professional and scientific development, he spent several months training in Switzerland, the USA, England, Italy, Sweden, and Russia.

Since 1988, he has been a member of ESSKA (European Society of Sports Traumatology, Knee Surgery, and Arthroscopy), and since 1995, a member of AOOS (American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons) and AANA (Arthroscopy Association of North America).

Since 1996, he has been the physician for the Croatian National Football Team and the head of the HNS Health Commission.

For his exceptional contributions to medical science and the development of surgery, he was awarded the City of Opatija Award in 1990 and the City of Varaždin Award in 2007. He has also been a frequent speaker at congresses in Croatia and abroad.

In 1981, he performed the first bone-cartilage transplantation in this part of Europe. Three years later, he was one of the first doctors in former Yugoslavia to introduce a new method of treating joint injuries—arthroscopy.
