Vascular surgery is a sub-branch of surgery that deals with diseases of the vascular system – arteries and veins. More than 50% of the population suffers from varicose veins or capillary problems, which are a consequence of genetic predisposition and modern lifestyle, including prolonged standing, sedentary work and lack of physical activity.
When to see a vascular surgeon?

Vascular surgery Split at the Matulić Polyclinic
In our clinic, we provide modern diagnostics and treatment of venous and arterial diseases with an emphasis on minimally invasive methods, rapid recovery and aesthetic results. The examination by a vascular surgeon includes a clinical assessment and color Doppler ultrasound of the blood vessels, in order to obtain a comprehensive insight into the state of circulation.
Matulić Polyclinic, in collaboration with the "Lege artis" polyclinic, implements the most modern methods of treating varicose veins:
Foam sclerotherapy
Ultrasound-guided foam sclerotherapy (UGFS)
Radiofrequency vein ablation (RFA)
Foam sclerotherapy
Injection of a sclerosing agent mixed with air (to create foam) into the lumen of the capillary with a thin needle. The method is simple and quick and is performed on an outpatient basis, without anesthesia.
Ultrasound-guided foam sclerotherapy (UGFS)
A method in which sclerosing foam is injected under ultrasound control. It is used in the treatment of larger capillaries, veins and venous ulcers. It is often used in combination with one of the surgical techniques in order to achieve the best possible results.
Radiofrequency vein ablation (RFA)
RFA is the newest method of getting rid of varicose veins in the legs, which is based on closing damaged veins using microwaves. It is a surgical procedure that is performed on an outpatient basis, under anesthesia, and which effectively, painlessly and permanently removes problems related to problematic veins.
The procedure is performed by inserting a thin probe (catheter) through a small opening in the skin, under ultrasound guidance, all the way to the mouth of the varicose vein. The catheter is connected to a device that heats the vein wall with radiofrequency energy, which then compresses and closes it at high temperature. Since the blood flow through it stops, the blood is redirected to other, healthy veins. The thermally treated vein immediately retracts, and the hematoma (bruise) and local swelling disappear in the following weeks. The patient can immediately return to daily activities.
All services

Before any of the mentioned procedures, a specialist examination by a vascular surgeon and a color doppler vein (ultrasound) is necessary to determine the exact condition of the veins and arteries of the legs and the degree of damage, and to choose the most suitable method of treatment for each patient.
